In order for taxpayers to sign off on a tax return, they are required to input the PTIN number. Each year we are required to renew the PTIN number and pay a small fee.
We had previously posted in the blog that the fee had been reduced a bit and the current fee to renew your 2026 PTIN is $18.75.
I actually just got done renewing my PTIN before I wrote this post and it took me less than 5 minutes start-to-finish to complete it.

Did you mean to say "In order for tax preparers to sign off on a tax return" Instead of "In order for taxpayers to sign off on a tax return"? I've never heard of a PTIN. But then again I am not a tax preparer, merely a taxpayer.
