Expect a Healthy Increase in ACA Premiums in 2026

Many farmers utilize health insurance on the Exchange. Expect to pay up to 20% more next year for your premiums before any premium tax credit.

Many farmers obtain health insurance from the Exchange (Obama Care). For 2021-2025, the credits that farmers received based on their income to offset the premiums was increased substantially.

However, the One Big Beautiful Bill Act did not extend these beneficial provisions into 2026. This means that your tax credit to help offset those premiums starting in 2026 will drop and the decrease may be material (over 70% in some cases).

Most health insurance providers are assuming that many healthy people that were on the exchange will now drop coverage due to the overall reduction in tax credits and this along with other inflationary practices will result in premiums next year increasing by an average of 18% and in some cases over 20%.
