Hawaii is Not a Bad Place This Time of Year
I recap my vacation with family in Hawaii and ready to get started blogging again
I flew home from Hawaii yesterday morning to about 4 inches of new snow at my house with a low of 3 degrees this morning. I can certainly say that Hawaii this time of year is nicer weather than here, but as I write this, it is very sunny here and I am still wearing shorts.
I had a great time with family in Hawaii and will share the highlights and lowlights from the trip.
Here are the highlights:
I played five rounds of golf. Three rounds were for fun. My son, his business partner and his wife and I played the Sentry Championship Pro-Am. On Tuesday we played the Bay Course, and this was simply a stroke play event. My son ended up missing second or third place by one stroke. His handicap was a 6 and he shot 4 over to have a net 70. My handicap was 14 and I actually shot my handicap, so I was pretty happy. I think I had two birdies on the round.
That night, we had a putt-off to determine which Pros we would play with on Wednesday. We were grouped with two other teams and won the putt-off and elected to play with Ludvig Aberg and Erik Van Rooyen. Ludvig is the rookie that played on the European Ryder Cup team.
The Pro-Am was held Wednesday on the Plantation Course where the event is held. My goal was not to mess up the first tee shot, and I am happy to say I hit it about 250 yards right down the middle. However, on that hole it is downhill and my son and his partner each hit their tee shots about 325 yards.
On Hole 4 I actually drove the green and we ended up making a birdie there for a net eagle.
The event was a Shamble where all of us teed off and we would play our own ball in from the best drive. My memory is that we used my drive at least 4 times so I was pretty happy.
Hole 8 is a par 3 playing about 160 yards for me. I ended up with KP at about 5 feet away and made the putt for a natural birdie since my teammates all missed their putt.
Now for the lowlights:
Hole 14 is a short par 4 and I hit a wedge to about 3 feet but missed the birdie putt. It lipped out of the hole. That was not fun.
That was about the only lowlight.
On a personal note, it is always good to be with my son and his family, but his almost three-year-old son about wears me out. The Westin has a slide that requires about 50 steps to get up to and that boy made me ride that slide at least 50 times. I am getting too old for that, but it is worth the little bit of pain.
We will be getting back to our normal blog posting now but decided to take time off for family. This is probably the only vacation where I did not take my computer out of my bag.
