House Passes Budget Resolution But Will it Tank the Farm Bill
The House yesterday passed a budget resolution by the slimmest margin possible. Will it prevent a new Farm Bill?
The House yesterday evening passed a budget resolution on a 217-215 vote. Only one Republican (Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY)) voted against the budget resolution. Three Democrats dealing with health issues even made it for the vote which required almost all of the Republicans to vote in favor.
This bill requires $2 trillion in cost savings over 10 years. If that is achieved, then $4.5 trillion of tax cuts are allowed. This drops to $4 trillion if cost cuts are less than $1.5 trillion.
However, the bill also requires USDA to trim about $230 billion over 10 years with most of this coming out of SNAP.
