How Will Base Acres Look in 2026

OBBBA allows farmers to increase their base acres utilizing their average planted acres from 2019-2023. Farmers will be allowed to use prevent planted acres and any old cotton base acres in determining the increase in base acres. This increase will be effective for the 2026 crop year. The maximum national base acre increase will be limited to 30 million acres.

Remember that ARC and PLC payments are based on base acres not planted acres. For most farmers, their base acres are lower than planted acres and the difference can be material.
