USDA Announces $1 Billion for Flood and Wildfire Relief for Livestock Producers

USDA announced that livestock producers affected by floods or wild fires in 2023 or 2024 can sign up for assistance which was provided as part of the $20+ billion aid from the American Relief Act passed in December 2024.

USDA has a list of counties that will automatically qualify for the relief and that list is located here.

Producers not located in those counties can still apply for relief but will need to provide documentation such as:

• Photographs documenting impact to livestock, land, or property

• Insurance documentation

• Emergency declaration reports

• News articles

• National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration storm event database records

• Other FSA disaster program participation records

• Other documentation determined acceptable by the FSA county committee

Eligible producers will receive 60% of one month of calculated feed costs for a qualifying wildfire or three months for a flood event using the same monthly feed calculation that is used for the Livestock Forage Program (LFP).

The payment limit is $125,000 and if you have already hit the limit from previous ELRP 2023 and 2024 applications, you likely do not need to apply. If more than 75% of your adjusted gross income is from farming the limit is doubled.
