Will the Fax Machine Go the Way of the Dodo Bird
It appears the IRS may finally not require documents to be faxed to them. But it may take five years
At the American Bar Association Section of Taxation meeting held recently, Bridget Roberts, acting IRS transformation and strategy officer indicated that the IRS will eventually stop requiring documents to be faxed to their office.
I know personally how much of a pain it is trying to fax documents to the IRS and getting the dreaded busy signal. Plus the IRS seems to think fax is more secure than “secure” email which it is not since most faxes now are sent via some type of software service anyway.
This is good news, however, it appears that we may still have to fax documents for at least another five years. The dodo bird went extinct before I was born, I am hoping the fax machine will go extinct before I do.
